Former Wisconsin Badger Brian Butch puts on basketball camp in Three Lakes
THREE LAKES - Wisconsin Badger basketball fans know their team plays old-school, fundamental hoops.

It's something of a lost art, but high school coaches hope to bring it back.

So Monday former Badger basketball standout Brian Butch offered to help, teaching kids in Three Lakes the skills he focused on as a kid.

"Yeah, he tried to play defense on me, and I was looking straight up into the sky pretty much," said Three Lakes' Kara Sowinski.

The 6' 11'' former Wisconsin Badgers basketball player brought his basketball camp straight to the Northwoods.

"We just worked on the fundamentals of the game," said Butch.

The Appleton native teaches the fundamental parts of the game he focused on as a kid.

"I think nowadays a lot of kids just want to play," said Butch. "They want organized form. They want to play five on five, three on three, the fundamental game has kind of been taken away."

But thanks to Butch, fundamentals could be found in Three Lakes on Monday and also understood.

"It's like the basics of basketball." said Three Lakes' Austin Maney

The Three Lakes basketball program would like to host a Brian Butch Basketball Camp every year and attract basketball players across the Northwoods to Three Lakes.

"Provide athletes in the Northwoods community with excellent opportunities and experiences to learn the sport of basketball and have a great time over the summer with their friends," said Three Lakes basketball coach Ryan Bach.

Butch believes he had plenty of opportunities growing up. He now wants to give opportunities to others.

"Being a part of what they're trying to build and grow here," said Butch.

Three Lakes basketball players like having him around.

"We get a good player that's teaching us how to be good like him," said Maney.
