Local charity receives $1,000 donation
LAC DU FLAMBEAU - Picking football game winners this season helped out a local Salvation Army branch.

Lake of the Torches Resort Casino and the Lakeland Times gave $500 each to the Lac du Flambeau Salvation Army.

Lake of the Torches Marketing Director Leana Schlecht won the paper's football prediction board.

The board had 10 participating members who donated $50 each.
The winner got to choose which charity gets the $500 prize money.

Lake of the Torches then matched the prize amount.

"It's a long season, putting in, making sure you get your picks in each week. After Aaron Rogers got hurt it got even harder," Schlecht said. "As the season went on, I had a couple really good weeks and I got ahead. I still finished the season on top and was happy to help out a local charity."

The money will help provide for emergency shelter and basic needs for people in and around Lac du Flambeau.
