Forest County meeting on sex offender placement cancelled
BLACKWELL - A meeting to inform Forest County residents of a sex offender placement got cancelled because of a pending legal battle.

Jeffrey LeVasseur's placement in Blackwell has been put on hold after neighbors filed a civil suit against the property owner. The owner, GWB Ventures, entered a rental agreement with the Department of Health Services to house LeVasseur.

Residents argue the neighborhood doesn't allow rentals. A judge granted a temporary restraining order to block LeVasseur from moving in. GWB Ventures then requested a new judge.

That new judge, selected on Monday, is Neil Nielson, the same judge who ordered LeVassuer's placement in Blackwell. After finding out who the new judge was, the neighborhood association that filed the civil suit requested a new judge.

A hearing date has not been set.
