Oneida Co. tourism branding, website to get makeover with grant help
ONEIDA COUNTY - The Oneida County Tourism Council believes a new brand and new website can help it attract a younger generation of people on vacation.

For the second year in a row, the state tourism department gave the council almost $40,000 to work on a branding project.

The council plans to replace its current website.  It's also looking for ways to draw new people from new places to the county.

"We're looking at a younger demographic. We're looking at more metropolitan areas than we've done before. Really, seriously, putting a lot of effort into the Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago markets. That's really where we put a lot of our efforts in," said Tourism Council President Krystal Westfahl.

Last year, volunteers collected information as part of an in-person survey program. They asked visitors where they were from and what drew them to Oneida County. That information will be used to help craft the new brand for tourism in the area.

The new website will be easier to navigate and better on cell phones and tablets.

"We have mobile visitors. We want to make sure that all of those visitors are having the best time and that they're getting all of the information they need in one place," Westfahl said.

The Tourism Council is made up of Chambers of Commerce in the county and other marketing groups. It's also supported by money from the Oneida County Board.
