Oneida County focuses on relaxation in new branding campaign
MINOCQUA - Oneida County wants visitors to think of relaxation any time they think about the area.

The county's tourism council rolled out a new branding campaign with that message on Thursday.

It features bright colors, carefree photos, and an easy way for people to learn more about the county.

The campaign includes a new website, OneNorthwoods.com.

"We needed to distinguish ourselves. 'One Northwoods' seemed rather fitting. We're Oneida County and we're in the Northwoods of Wisconsin," said Oneida County Tourism Council President Krystal Westfahl. "We want people to come here, travel here. We want them to enjoy themselves, and maybe someday move here."

State Tourism Sec.-designee Sara Meaney helped Oneida County celebrate its new message in Minocqua.

She also highlighted the new Office of Outdoor Recreation, which was approved in the recent state budget.

"Our goal is to leverage that Office of Outdoor Recreation for greater growth, jobs, businesses, and visitors to the state of Wisconsin, which will ultimately mean more prosperity," Meaney said.

Visitors spent more than $230 million in Oneida County last year. That topped the Northwoods and put it number 16 among the state's 72 counties.

"I always say that Oneida County, and the Northwoods in general, is the gem of the state of Wisconsin," said Rep. Rob Swearingen (R-Rhinelander). "This is exciting stuff for the Northwoods. Any time you revitalize your brand, I think it's a good thing."
