Sen. Tom Tiffany announces run to replace Rep. Sean Duffy in U.S. Congress
RHINELANDER - Republican Sen. Tom Tiffany alluded that he might make a run for U.S. Congress ever since Congressman Sean Duffy announced he will resign to spend more time with his family.

Tuesday, in the Al Gen Dinner Club in Rhinelander, Tiffany confirmed what many in the 7th Congressional District anticipated.

"We are going to run for Congress," said Tiffany to a room of supporters.

His stop in Rhinelander is one of seven he will make in the next two days. He said one thing Duffy did a great job of was traveling to places all over the district to make sure all of his constituents were heard. Tiffany wants to do the same.

Representative Rob Swearingen introduced Tiffany Tuesday, saying his time in the state legislature has prepared Tiffany for the national stage.

"He is a champion on economic development here in the Northwoods. I see people here in the forestry industry [here], timber," said Swearingen. "Tom is with that, certainly mining, what he has done in the state of Wisconsin for mining. All of these things are why we need Tom Tiffany in Washington."

Tiffany says since he began his tenure in the legislature in 2010, he has helped turn Wisconsin's economy around and plans to work on fiscal policy in Washington as well.

"The main reason I originally ran for the legislature is because of fiscal policy, we were spending too much money running deficits," said Tiffany. "We had a $3 billion deficit when I came in in 2010. We've wiped that out. We've had five consecutive balanced budgets."

Governor Evers has yet to indicate when he will call a special election for Duffy's seat.
