ANTIGO - They make quite a pair: father in his uniform and son in his mascot costume.
"I think Rocky and I get along doing stuff together as father and son," Bob Hitz said.
Hitz's job at Antigo Robin football games is a solemn one, helping with a tradition that means a little something extra to him.
"I started raising the flag here when I was in the Wisconsin army national guard as a soldier," Hitz said.
He comes with a group of veterans who know the price of service.
"As someone who's served overseas and seen some of my friends come home draped in that flag, it takes on special meaning to us," fellow veteran Tommie Stuckert said.
"My fellow veterans and soldiers all fought underneath the flag and my family fought underneath the flag," Hitz said.
The only bond closer than that of soldiers is father and son.
"It's actually pretty cool to do it with my dad," Rocky Robin, Antigo's mascot, said.
Hitz asked us to keep Rocky's real identity a secret.
"They didn't have a full-time mascot and he volunteered to do it," Hitz said. "He became their first full-time mascot last year."
Whether it's taking pictures with fans or raising the flag in front of them, the Hitz family gets to feel closer to their town.
"I think it's a great honor to raise the flag up for your home city," Hitz said.
