Marshfield Clinic AmeriCorps recovery coach celebrates nine years in recovery, thanks community for support
NORTHWOODS - Nine years ago, Jeffrey Frye made the decision to go into recovery.

He went to the hospital after he attempted suicide by overdose and the doctors said they were shocked he lived.

"They said, you're lying, because no one could take those pills and live longer than an hour," said Frye. "And that made me think, something had happened and there was a reason I survived and it wasn't so I could continue to stupefy myself every day."

Now, Frye is a Recovery Coach with an AmeriCorps program offered by Marshfield Clinic.

"When I got into recovery, I felt like the reason I got into recovery was to serve a purpose, make my life about some purpose," said Frye. "My life had just been about making myself stupefied every day and I wanted a change."

As a recovery coach, Frye helps people in recovery get to appointments, connect them with job and housing resources, and be a support system.

Frye says the whole community has been a support system for him and other people in recovery and is very grateful.
